CTC's work includes:

  • The formation of a youth group, coined Part of the Solution, providing opportunities for youth to become involved in fighting substance abuse and to illicit their feedback about  many of the challenges youth face in our community today.

  • The implemetation of the CASASTART program which provides individual counseling and guidance by trained professinals to high risk youths ages 8 to 13.  Funding for this service did end in June 2009.
  • Holding a numbers of educational forums on different topics such as drug overdoses, resources avaiable to families facing addiction, and how to treat opiate addiction
  • Successful "Shoulder Tap Surveys" completed in and around Lynn in a coordinated effort between Part of the Solution youth and Lynn Police.  With an officer present to ensure safety, a young person approaches adults outside retail stores that sell alcohol and ask if the adult would be willing to purchase alcohol for them, since they are not legally of age to buy for themselves.  Those that answer "yes" recieve a card outlining the law and the penalty for furnishing alcohol to a minor.  Those who answer "no" are handed a card thanking them for serving their community by refusing to provide alcohol to minors. In addition, alcohol compliance  checks have been conducted throughout the community ensuring enforcement of laws preventing sale of alcohol to mnors.  In 2009, began the process of assessment of marketing of drug paraphernalia at local convenience stores
  • The production of a Lynn Resource Guide (available online on this wiki) that will help families and providers become aware of all the various services offered in the city, as well as the updating, printing and distribution of the Linking Lynn guide (printed current 2009 version now available)
  • Receipt of funding from the Department of Public Health of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to support initiatives to prevent underage drinking (througth 2011)
  • Receipt of funding from the Department of Public Health of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to develop  implement, and evaluate a strategic plan to reduce fatal and non-fatal opiate overdoses (through 2011) MassCALL2 Strategic Plan.doc
  • Re-funding (through 2013) from the Drug Free Communities grant (federal funding) to support substance abuse prevention initiatives
